FILM OF THE DAY

Gone With The Wind (1939)- The most overrated film of all time? Never, not even for a minute. After re-visiting the wondorously ahead of its time masterpiece Gone With The Wind, I am as much in love as I was the first time round. In fact, I fell in love all over again. The breathtaking spectacle of Victor Flemming's film is awe inspiring, as is the beauty of a young vibrant Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara.
To me, the famous claim of "the greatest cast ever assembled" is one which cannot be disputed. While often dismissed as the earliest example of a "chick flick", Gone With The Wind offers so much more than romance. In fact, it is a highly provocative film; one which addresses issues of race, politics and femininity. There is no denying that the film has something for everyone, and 8 Oscar wins would go some way to agreeing with that. The character of Hattie McDaniel was revolutionary, and one of the earliest examples of an African-American taking a prominent role in the success of a film.
Overall, Gone With The Wind is an all encompassing film, which makes me cry every time, and then makes me want to start watching it all over again.

QUOTES

"with enough courage, you can do anything without a repuation" (Rhett Butler)
"don't bother me anymore, and don't call me sugar" (Scarlett O'Hara)

FILM FAN FACT OF THE DAY

Marilyn Monroe, sex siren of the silver screen or flatulent, slothenly slob??

In the autobiography of Cray Grant currently being penned, Monore has been described as a slob who would lie in bed all day, eating and sleeping.
It will be claimed that Grant was so particular about personal hygiene he couldn't abide his kissing scenes with the infamously sexy star.
